Johannes is the owner of pancake restaurant De Duivelsberg. Johannes preserves the rich history of the restaurant and the nature around the restaurant in different ways. "I'll show you some pictures on our wall", says Johannes enthusiastically. By showing the pictures, Johannes talks about De Duivelsberg; about how the area was originally German territory, about how the Forestry Commission became owner of the area in 1963, about the beginning of the pancake restaurant and how his parents used to run it.
Johannes also grew up in the forested area of De Duivelsberg. In 1988 Johannes became co-owner of the pancake restaurant. After a few years he wanted a new challenge. Together with his parents, Johannes starts a new pancake restaurant in the city centre of Nijmegen. His sister enters the partnership, but after a few years they split up. Johannes started to focus entirely on De Duivelsberg. "I think that people are more into relaxation here, because of the atmosphere".
I love the nature and stimulate the sustainable use of it
Innovation with the same experience
This new focus gave him a different view on De Duivelsberg. He looked for new opportunities to expand and renovate. "Some examples are the sunroom, the kitchen, the new parasols and for example the Sit & Heat cushions", says Johannes. "I often hear that nothing has changed here, but a lot of things have changed! Apparently, the experience that we give our guests is still the same. This is one of the biggest compliments in my opinion", Johannes says. "In the afternoon, I often walk with the dogs for half an hour; this is a moment of reflection. I bring a pen and paper with me and when I get back, my-to-do-list is ready".
A great addition to the hospitality
"I love the nature and stimulate the sustainable use of it. This is one of the biggest reasons why I chose Sit & Heat", says Johannes. This is no surprise, considering the beautiful wooded area around the restaurant. "For example, I also work with local products. Local products are fresher; less intermediaries, less waste and less transport", says Johannes. "Sit & Heat is a great addition to the hospitality industry. I frequently tell people the story of Sit & Heat and ask their experience. People love it"!
